Azumanga Daioh

"Raspberry Heaven, I'm coming back to you!"

So here is an interesting case with AzuDai.

While I have watched anime before this, rather it's anime on the Toonami Block or had some anime recommended from my sister (Ouran High School Club and Walflower), Azumanga Daioh was the one anime the first anime I remeber discovering on my own during the early YouTube days.

How I even discovered it was interesting.

See I was obsessed with this song from WarioWare "Tomorrow Hill". I kept singing it, much to my sister's dismay. At some point, I recall there was an AMV with the song and it has clips from Azumanga Daioh. Seeing that AMV got me curious so I started watching the series and I just adored it.

It was funny and charming all around!

I even watched the Short Movie and Azumanga Web Daioh which were..... uh..... they were something. 0u0;

AzuDai is what got me into writting some series of mine that is in the Slice of Life genre!

Though I know that when I was 12 to 15, I was kinda weird with it during those years.

I crossed it over with Super Mario RPG.

Why?

Because it was pretty much my two hype-fixations at the time.

I wish I was joking.

But that is a can of worms for another therapy session. Let's go back to the main topic

Being in the fandom for Azumanga Daioh has pretty much taught me a lot of fandom stuff at the time. Granted, they were relatively small compared to something like Homestuck but there were some stuff that I knew about.

There is the concept of wlw shipping (which makes sense, Kaorin is huge sapphic for Sakaki).. and fankids of those ships. c: Yes, there is the concept of fankids for wlw pairings.

While I knew it's not possible in real life, at the time, it was fun to witness some of the time! It's interesting that it's more of an "of the time" deal as I don't think I see something like that nowadays. (I mean, I could be wrong and I'm just not looking hard enough but eh, I got my own stuff to deal with sooooooooo.... *shrugs*)

Outside of fandom stuff, I remember making some AMVs for Azumanga Daioh. (One was a'ight, the other I kinda just don't care for.)

But I have been rambling on and on, let's close this out with:

Azumanga Daioh is something that has basically impacted my life. Not only for the stuff I mentioned but also, I delve deep into anime after that.

I got into Lucky Star and Haruhi Suzumiya sometime after this series.

And not only that, I was able to make friends through it, which is something I'll be grateful for!
